It’s official: Rockford lands Ireland flights

Twice-weekly flights between Rockford and Shannon, Ireland, will start June 26, according to Kenny Tours. The Maryland-based company signed a deal Thursday with North American Airlines to fly the route through Aug. 31, said Bob Nay, Kenny Tours' director of sales and marketing. The flights will be Thursdays and Sundays. Round-trip airfares start at $888, including taxes and airport fees. Six-night motor coach tours, including airfare and hotels, start at $1,489. Six-night bed-and-breakfast stays, including airfare and car rental, start at $1,489. The seasonal model is similar to Chicago Rockford International Airport's other international route, Apple Vacations' weekly flights to Cancun, Mexico, in the winter. But the Ireland flights will be on Boeing 757s with almost 200 seats, which would be the largest plane used on a regularly scheduled passenger route from Rockford.

Tolls Could Fund Brent Spence Bridge Replacement

The groundwork has been laid that could lead to tolls being charged on Kentucky roads to help pay for a Brent Spence Bridge replacement.

The Kentucky Senate's Transportation Committee heard testimony Wednesday morning in Frankfort on Senate Bill 7, which was co-sponsored by Senator Dick Roeding of Northern Kentucky.

It would create an authority to explore any and all funding solutions to replace the aging double decker span linking Ohio with Kentucky.

The bill is being considered because full funding for the $1 billion replacement project isn't likely to come from cash-strapped Washington and fiscally challenged Frankfort.

Boone County Judge Executive Gary Moore testified before the committee on behalf of all eight Northern Kentucky Judge-Executives and the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

MythBusters: 7 Tech Headaches—and How to Fix Them

Seriously, when I need to use a power drill and my only other option is to drive to the store and buy a brand-new drill and plug in its charger and wait, the inconvenience of dragging 200 feet of extension cord across the yard is a piece of cake. I predict a bright future for this awesome innovation. 176. RE: MythBusters: 7 Tech Headaches I have been able to run linux on older machines without a hitch. My laptop is a p1 166mhz system. it easily runs debian linux. I even run a web based accounting system from it. Thank you Linux Torvalds. 175. RE: MythBusters: 7 Tech Headaches—and How to Fix Them RE: Post#146, Flies dance operas to you wisdom. Linux is far easier to install than windoze, easier to use, and way more secure.(I used M$ too many years) and believe it or not the main reason computers were designed was not for some social retards gaming needs.

Readers forum: What do you think of the Pennsylvania's state store ...

Critics say the LCB is an arcane relic that imposes exorbitant taxes and burdensome rules.

We asked readers what they thought of Pennsylvania's state store system. Below is a selection of their reponses.

To the Editors:

Your excellent series of articles on the LCB highlight just how perverse the system is in Pennsylvania. I grew up in The 'burgh and remember trailing my parents once into the State store. Even at the age of 10, I found the whole experience tawdry as a speakeasy and about as inspiring as a Moscow grocery store under the Communists: the clerk would ask for your order, then go into the back and get the wines while you waited. No browsing; just THE LIST. Thank God my parents later introduced me to the pleasures of wine and showed me how wonderful this and other alcoholic beverages can be, IN MODERATION.

Chlorine tablets distributed in typhoid-hit Laguna villages

Duque said they would strengthen community health campaigns in Laguna to make sure that the residents maintain proper sanitation.

He urged residents to boil water and practice proper hygiene, especially those handling food, to avoid the spread of the disease.

Duque said the latest field bulletin showed that 1,262 people had been rushed to hospitals, with various typhoid-like symptoms.

Of the total, 27 cases were confirmed, while blood culture tests were being carried out on the others.

The DOH earlier suspected that contaminated water supply could be the primary cause of the typhoid outbreak in Calamba.

But Calamba officials have so far not traced the source of the bacteria, Duque said.

Most residents suspect contaminated drinking water as the source, but tests carried out by Calamba officials have "yielded negative results," Duque said.

Man set fire to stepson's bed

A stepfather, unhappy about the attention his wife was paying to her intellectually disabled son, set fire to the youth's bedroom, causing $26,000 damage.

In the Christchurch District Court yesterday, Graeme Noel Cook, 44, of Rangiora, was jailed for 18 months after earlier pleading guilty to two charges of arson.

His wife, Sharon Thompson-Cook, told the court how difficult it had been coping with the aftermath of the fire just before Christmas. The family had to move into rental accommodation and she still did not know whether the insurance company would pay for the damage to the house.

Her first husband, Malcolm Thompson, then read a victim impact statement for their son, Tim, 19, who has an intellectual age of nine or 10.

All the boy's possessions were lost in the fire on December 19.
