And Kent has the promise of canoe and kayak activity, whereas Peninsula relies heavily on bicycle traffic. "I think it's a piece," Hoover said of the proposed white water park. "It's not going to be the one thing. The challenge with something like that is it's very seasonal." The chamber board of directors voted Thursday to appoint Hoover to take over for former director Dan Smith.

In fact, as a government audit discovered, the VA's paperless system has created a huge bottleneck, losing track of 53,000 veterans. Last year, Obama introduced legislation requiring the VA to treat each returning vet in 30 days. Yet, the VA already had such a requirement, and, according to internal VA audits, 25 percent of all vets wait more than 30 days for their first exam.

Benefit for 'Pretty in Pink' Held in Cary
Cary, N.C. — The Women Business Owners Network (WBON) held a fashion show and social Wednesday night to benefit the Pretty in Pink Foundation. WRAL’s Debra Morgan was the emcee for the Matthews House event. By 9:30 p.m. the non-profit organization had taken in $2,100. Pretty in Pink’s mission is to provide money for breast cancer patients who don't have adequate insurance. .

The president, George Bush, was last week looking vulnerable on the same grounds after CBS's flagship current affairs show, 60 Minutes, broadcast a report claiming he had been suspended from pilot duties for failing to meet the required standards. It was also claimed that a commanding officer had been put under pressure to "sugar coat" Mr Bush's performance reviews.
But while CBS stands by its story, allegations have now surfaced that 60 Minutes based a large part of the report on forged documents.
Although what one man - even a presidential candidate - did more than 30 years ago can seem rather trivial, the US election is being fought between a self-declared "war president" and a man who, in stump speeches, claims he would defend his country as president in the way he had defended it as a young man.
