Texas Holdem: Provisionals, Delegates, One-Party Counties Hold Back ...
But perhaps the most astonishing aspect of the Texas primary is that despite the popular vote going for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, Texas delegates are voting for Barack Obama. Provisionalizing Voters Those whose names do not appear on voter rolls are provided a provisional ballot which will later be counted if the voter can prove she is legally allowed to vote. Party operatives use voter rolls to disenfranchise targeted segments of society. We saw this in Florida in 2000 from Greg Palast’s exposė. With the advent of statewide, computerized databases, the job of vote suppression becomes child’s play. Electronic "glitches," fluctuations in humidity, and power outages can also remove huge portions from computerized rolls, or refuse to recognize valid voters based on name or street hyphenation.

City madam loses appeal over three-year jail sentence
THE woman behind one of Southampton's biggest prostitution rings has had her appeal to cut her sentence refused. Judges at London's Court of Appeal upheld Sharon Moir's three-year jail term despite the fact she argued it was "manifestly excessive". The 47-year-old was convicted in June this year of running brothels and inciting and controlling prostitution for personal gain. She had been caught out after a police officer went undercover for an interview and Moir told her how to conduct herself as a prostitute. Mr Justice Cooke said there was "economic coercion" by Moir - who would have between 10 and 12 girls a day working at her brothels in the city - in that she would take their work away if they didn't work extra hours. See today's Daily Echo for the full story.
Every School Every Thursday -- Ankeny
They had a great time celebrating the 100th day. In math, the students worked on dividing 100 items into piles of 10, 5, and 2, counting to 100 by 2s, 5s, and 10s, and they compared 100 pieces of rice and 100 pennies. In reading, the students wrote 100 words, read for 100 seconds, and made words with the letters, "one hundred days." The students also finished the sentences, "If I had 100 mosquito bites, I would ..." and "If I had 100 legs, I would ..." Northwest Spencer Smith, Josephine Lewis, and Jennifer Rich's class buddied up with fourth and fifth grade students to make paper mache planets for our upcoming fun night. We also read books about the planets and sang songs. We had a great messy time. Southeast Four lucky students at Southeast got a chance to go out to lunch with the principal.
