I've been told that CNN has the best political team on television. (That honor used to go to the Clintons.) So tonight I'm watching CNN. Wolf Blitzer is working the big board, crunching the numbers. Anderson Cooper, meanwhile, is consulting the panel of experts (David Gergen, Jeff Toobin and Gloria Borger, among them) for analysis. The experts sit side-by-side behind laptops, along tables that look more like counters. My snarky friend Jeremy says they look like cashiers at Chipotle. That's a cheap shot. It's obvious that the arrangement is modeled after an airport rental car center. It's a clean look and it's handily hierarchical: The A-team (as in Avis team) includes Gergen, Toobin and Borger. The B-team (as in Budget) tonight includes Paul Begala, Bill Bennett and Carl Bernstein. This is a pretty strong B-team.

The capacity war in the hard drive industry is in full force and desktop drives are not the only ones benefiting. Current notebook hard drives are at the 500GB mark with recent launches from Hitachi and Samsung when only about 6 months ago the highest capacity notebook drives weighed in at 250GB. Today, Fujitsu announced its MHZ2 BT line of notebook drives which includes 400GB and 500GB capacities to compete with the capacity of the front-runners in the notebook drive market. The MHZ2 BT line features a SATA 3.0 Gb/sec interface and an 8MB buffer. The rotational speed clocks in at 4200RPM which may prove to be a bit slow compared to the 5400RPM, 500GB drives from Hitachi and Samsung. Despite the rotational speed, the average seek time while writing is 14ms while average read seek times clock in at 12ms which is comparable to the competition.

Fla. Tourism Hit By National Economic Skid
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida's economy, already staggered by a stagnant real estate market and tight credit conditions, suffered another blow Friday when officials said tourism fell by 1.5 million visitors in 2007. Preliminary estimates showed 82.4 million people visited Florida in 2007, compared to 83.9 who came in 2006. It was the first drop-off in visitors to Florida since shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the northeast. "Trends suggest that some vacationers traveling by auto may be staying closer to home," said Bud Nocera, president and CEO of Visit Florida, the state's private-public tourism agency. Folks in other states apparently were staying closer to home too. Tourism was flat a year ago as well, increasing by 1 percent, and Visit Florida has renewed its call on the Legislature for money to help lure more visitors with advertising blitzes.
